Funnily enough, Ive never had a bug were the heater leavers worked i.e. I used to jam them open from the heat exchanger side in the winter and left them closed in the summer. Sorry, no help, but if you go on Volkszone in the technical bit (sign up first like on here and then start posting) see here www.volkszone.co.uk/VZi/forumdisplay.php?f=11 ....you will defo. get a reply within the hour. j

Heater on bugs never really work very well, the leaver are suppose to open and close flaps on the heat exchanger so the heat can then come into the cab, but what's happens is the cables snap and never get repaired, so you find that your leaver aren't really attached to anything.
What you can do is jack your car up, open the heater manually (tie them open with a cable tie or something) so there open during the winter, and then simply cut the tie's in the summer.
or of curse you can repair the cables, but there a hugh pain as there run thought the centre of the floor and are notoriously difficult to replace

Well if its the leaver at the side of the hand brake, then there the ones that open and close the heater flaps to let the warm air in, when there down there closed when there up they should be open
